Course Information
Theatrical Design and Production teaches students what it takes to stage a modern production. Students learn about staging, lighting, sound production, and the design process.
In the first class students learn a great deal about the artistic elements of a production. The second class offers serious theatre students a more in-depth education in theatrical design and production.
Major Assignments
Critiques
Every student is required to turn in two written critiques of live theatre performances (1 each 9 weeks). Students must attend the performance while they are enrolled in the class. Any show from school plays to professional touring shows and anything in between can be used for the critique. A critique is a well supported opinion paper. You will focus on the technical elements of the show. (Ex. Lights, sound, set, costumes, props, etc.) A critique is not a summary of the show. Do not describe the plot of the show you saw. Draw on what you have learned in our class to tell your opinion of how the different elements were used in the production and whether they were used well or not. Include what the technical elements added to the success or failure of the scene. Support your observations with explanations.
Notebooks
Students will need a 3 ring binder to keep all course information including handouts, notes, quizzes, and worksheets. Notebook pages will need to be numbered in the order they were recieved. Students must bring their notbooks to class each day. Notebooks will be checked regularly for completeness.
